Today, we’re talking with Marco Romeyn, Purchase Manager at Argos in the Netherlands. From his tour of our brand-new factory in January 2025 to our strategic discussions in Rotterdam, Marco shares his vision for sustainable sourcing. He explains how Argos integrates Naturalvi paper inserts to meet the demands of the Dutch market, proving that technical performance and environmental responsibility are now the perfect match.
Naturalvi : Hello Marco, could you briefly introduce Argos?
Marco : Argos founded is founded in 1998 in the “Westland” regio in the Netherlands, founded on strong family values and a proactive “can do” mentality. We believe that with strong partnership we can develop and produce innovative and sustainable packaging and protective materials.
Naturalvi : Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Argos, as well as your relationship with Naturalvi?
Marco : My name is Marco Romeyn, and I have been working at Argos since 2019. I am responsible for strategic sourcing in my role as Purchase Manager, where I oversee supplier selection, contract negotiations, and long-term procurement strategies to ensure cost efficiency and supply security.
In this role, I work closely with key suppliers, including Naturalvi. My relationship with Naturalvi is primarily focused on managing the commercial and operational aspects of our collaboration, ensuring alignment on pricing, quality standards, delivery performance, and future business opportunities.
Naturalvi : Why are sustainable packaging solutions important for your clients and for Argos?
Marco : Sustainable packaging solutions are increasingly important for both our customers and for Argos.
For Argos, sustainable packaging aligns with our long-term strategy and corporate responsibility goals. It supports compliance with evolving legislation, reduces environmental impact across the supply chain, and enhances our reputation as a responsible and forward-looking partner. In addition, it drives innovation and creates opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost optimization over time.
Naturalvi : When and how did your collaboration with Naturalvi begin? Was there a particular moment or meeting that marked this partnership?
Marco : Our collaboration started in 2018 and for me there are two moments that stand out, first, the visit we brought to Naturalvi in January 2025 where we were the first to have been shown around in the new factory which was very impressive to see.
And second the meeting we held last December when Anne and Pierre brought visit to Argos and that we closed with a great diner in Rotterdam where shared good food, good drinks and good conversation on how to further develop markets and future business.*
Naturalvi : What convinced you, both as a company and personally as someone at Argos, to work with Naturalvi and their paper trays?
Marco : What convinced me to work with Naturalvi and their paper trays is their reliable, proven quality and their strong commitment to Argos as a long-term partner. The performance of their products has been consistent and meets our technical and commercial requirements, which is essential for us and for our clients.
Naturalvi : How do Naturalvi’s solutions complement your overall packaging and protective materials offering?
Marco : Naturalvi’s solutions complement our overall packaging and protective materials offering by strengthening our sustainable product portfolio. At Argos, we aim to provide a complete range of packaging and protective solutions that meet both functional and environmental requirements. The paper trays from Naturalvi fit perfectly within this strategy.
Naturalvi : How does this partnership with Naturalvi inspire you and help you go further in your commitment to sustainable packaging?
Marco : This partnership with Naturalvi inspires us by showing that sustainability and performance can truly go hand in hand. At Argos, we are committed to continuously improving our packaging portfolio and reducing the environmental impact of the solutions we offer. Working with a partner like Naturalvi, who shares that same ambition, motivates us to accelerate this transition.
Naturalvi : Finally, what personal message would you like to share with your clients or other companies who are still hesitant to switch to more sustainable packaging solutions?
Marco : My personal message to clients and companies who are still hesitant to switch to more sustainable packaging solutions would be: start the conversation and take the first step. Sustainability does not have to mean compromising on quality, performance, or reliability. Today, there are proven alternatives available that combine functionality with a significantly lower environmental impact.
In our experience at Argos, the transition can be gradual and well-managed. By working with the right partners and carefully evaluating the technical and commercial aspects, sustainable solutions can be implemented in a practical and cost-conscious way.
I would also encourage companies to look beyond short-term considerations. Sustainable packaging is not only about compliance or image; it is about future-proofing your business, meeting growing customer expectations, and taking responsibility within the supply chain. The sooner you start, the stronger your competitive position will be in the long term.
A huge thank you to Marco for sharing his insights, and to Argos for their continued trust over all these years!
